Please tune in on Insight Cable Channel 12 or this website. Your bids will help make this auction a success and allow you to obtain some real bargains. The benefits of this Auction go farther than you can imagine. Please check back often on our live streaming video of the Lions Club Auction. Last year, more than 250 people viewed the auction online. And last year the auction raised approximately $26,000. The goal for 2010 has been set at $30,000. All money raised stays in Henderson to be used toward eyeglasses, eye exams and eye surgeries and other community projects. As in past years, the pick-up location for items purchased in the auction is the auction trailer, which will be located on the campus of Henderson Community College near the library building. Pick-up hours will be:- Monday through Friday (with the exception of the first night of the auction) from 5 to 9 p.m.- Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.- Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The auction, which started as a radio broadcast, is a long-time fixture among community projects.

PURPOSE:

The annual Lions Club auction is the primary fundraiser for the Henderson Lions Club. The 2008 auction resulted in net proceeds of approximately $30,000.00. All of the net proceeds from the auction are utilized to fund the sight conservation programs and charitable work of our club. The auction proceeds are used to provide eye screening for all third and fifth grade students in Henderson County to assist individuals with the cost of eye examinations and eyeglasses; to provide one free pair of eyeglasses to all children in Henderson County; to assist individuals with the cost of various eye surgeries, such as cataract and cornea transplant surgery; and to fund programs promoting sight conservation. Funds raised by the auction are also used to support sight conservation efforts run by other charitable groups, such as the Diabetes Coalition and to fund community service and programs of the club, such a youth baseball team, diabetes and kidney disease screenings, college scholarships, and provide funding to various charitable organizations.

The continuation and extent of the sight conservation community service programs; and charitable efforts of the Henderson Lions Club are dependent upon the annual auction, which is our primary fundraiser. With the ever increasing cost of, and need for, assistance with sight related items, the funds raised by the auction must constantly increase to meet the demand.

HISTORY:

The Henderson Lions Club has conducted an annual auction as its major fundraiser since 1952, at which time the first auction was conducted over the local radio station. In 1975, the auction switched from radio to local cable television, through the generosity of Insight Cable television. For the past several years, the auction has been broadcast from the television facilities at the Henderson Community College.

The introduction of a simultaneous web cast of the auction in 2008 was our next milestone. The web cast will make the auction telecast available not only to all residents of Henderson County, but also to residents of surrounding counties. This innovation will allow us to reach a much larger audience and pool of potential bidders through the wonders of the internet.

AUCTION PROCEDURE:

The procedure for bidding upon and purchasing items at the auction is very simple. The items will be described and displayed by our announcers. Anyone desiring to bid upon an item will simply call the auction telephone number, which will be constantly displayed, and enter his or her bid for the item. The highest bidder will become the purchaser of the item. The purchasers must pick up and pay for the items at The Henderson Lions Club Auction Headquarters at the Henderson Community College on the dates and during the hours which will be announced periodically during the auction. Unfortunately, we cannot accept bids over the internet, nor will we be able to mail items to individuals who cannot pick them up at the Auction Headquarters.

DONATIONS:

The success, and very existence, of The Henderson Lions Club auction is totally dependent upon the generous donations of individuals, merchants and organizations. All items which we auction are donated. We gratefully accept all donations of cash or any item which we may lawfully, and in good taste, sell, including merchandise, certificates for services, collectibles, and sports memorabilia. For 2010, we may also accept donations of motor vehicles. We will take care of all title transfers necessary with these items, and insure that the donor receives the necessary documentation to obtain a tax deduction for such items.
