About the Henderson Lions Club

The primary purpose of our club is to promote the conservation of eyesight. To this end, we provide assistance and financing for vision exams and eyeglasses for men, women and children of the community without sufficient financial resources. We also assist such individual with cataract surgeries, cornea transplants, and other vision related needs. We provide free eye screenings to all third and fifth grade students in Henderson County school system to identify students in need of eyeglasses and other vision assistance. Recognizing that diabetes is a major cause of vision impairment through diabetic retinopathy, the Henderson Lions Club provides assistance to organizations, such as The Diabetes Coalition, who combat this disease and educate individuals in the methods of controlling it.

The Henderson Lions Club also provides support to many other charitable agencies and programs within Henderson County, including Salvation Army and numerous other organizations. We have sponsored a youth baseball team for over fifty years. The Henderson Lions Club also awards numerous college scholarships to Henderson County students each year.

The Henderson Lions Club raises funds for its charitable activities through a number of fundraisers. Our major fundraiser, the annual television auction, is conducted in February of each year. We also engage in lemonade sales at various community functions, such as the Tri-Fest, Bluegrass Festival, etc. All funds raised by such activities are used exclusively for the club's charitable and community service endeavors, and is maintained in a separate account. Membership activities are funded exclusively by the dues paid by the members.

The Henderson Lions Club has approximately 80 active members and 14 at-large members. The leadership for the club is provided by a slate of officers and a board of directors.

ALWAYS to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state and my community, and to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor, and means.

TO AID others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.

TO BE CAREFUL with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.
